Whether you prefer to keep cosy indoors or explore the crisp outdoors, we guarantee there’s something you can add to your to do list this season.
1. Christmas movie marathon at home
There’s no better feeling than cosying up around the fire whilst watching your favourite festive film. Pick up your favourite snacks and wrap up in a duvet (shop our wunderflex duvet here to take your night up a notch). The perfect way to enjoy the cinema experience whilst having your home comforts. If you’re in need of some inspo on what to watch, why not take a peek at our festive film countdown – that’s right, 25 festive favourites for you to enjoy. Read it here.
2. paint and sip night
If you want to bring out your creative side why not host your own paint and sip date night at home, or if you want to make it a little extra there are plenty of places across the UK where you can book the experience.
Purchase some paint your own mugs or Christmas decorations along with the paint to create a memory that will last forever. You could even purchase a few different wines and add wine tasting to your evening too – the options are endless.
3. game night
Christmas and games of all shapes and sizes are a match made in heaven! Whether you dig out your favourite board game or treat yourself to a new Christmas themed game – bring out your competitive side for this date night in.
There’s also plenty of DIY games you can find online if you want to make things a bit more fun and budget friendly.
4. cheese and mulled wine night
Cheese and wine but make it Christmas. Is it really Christmas time if you don’t have all your favourite cheeses crammed aesthetically onto your favourite wooden board?
Take a trip to your local supermarket or a fancy farm shop if you want to take things up a notch. Then together with your better half, pick out the cheeses that tickle your fancy and the nibbles to go with. Next up, pick up a cheeky bottle (or two!) of mulled wine.
5. Christmas markets
If you love to shop ‘til you drop then this is the perfect date night for you. Get in the spirit of the season by taking a wander through the wooden huts of your local Christmas market or look online to find out when your nearest cities German markets are on. The markets are often filled with gifts and treats galore as well as there being a tipple or two (our personal favourite is a baileys hot chocolate, mmm!).
If you want to add a twist to your festive eve, why not challenge one another to buy something that they know the other would like and trade gifts at the end of the night.
6. ice skating
This activity is an absolute must when it comes to Winter. Cosy up and head down to an outdoor ice rink, just like they do in all of our favourite Christmas movies. Even if you’re not the most skilled when it comes to skating or you’ve never been before, you’ll still have lots of fun giggling at each other. You might even discover that one of you has a hidden talent.
7. wreath making
When you’re decking the halls, don’t forget to add a festive touch to your front door too. If you like to embrace your creative side then you’ll love this one. Get your craft head on and create your very own Christmas wreath. There’s plenty of florists around that offer workshops to talk you through every step of the way or if you want to challenge yourself even more, whilst saving a few pennies, you could buy the supplies and create one yourself at home.
And while you're in the crafty date night kinda mood, why not have a go of Christmas bow making. This trend has been taking the socials by storm in the lead up to Christmas this year.
8. light trail
These bright and colourful Christmas trails are popping up all over the UK and they’re a perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit whilst also getting those steps in. Warm up with a hot choc or a mulled wine and take a stroll through the woods or the grounds of a big country house to discover a magical, twinkling light trail filled with lots of Christmas characters.
9. bake gingerbread cookies
Is there anything more festive than your home being filled with the spiced and sweet scent of freshly baked gingerbread? This date night activity is a two in one, get your home smelling delicious whilst also getting to taste a sweet treat too. Work together with your other half to mix the dough and decide which shapes you’re going to cut your cookies in – whether it’s the classic gingerbread man or some different festive shapes. Once they’re baked, why not add your own touch by seeing who can decorate them best?
10. decorate the Christmas tree
Even the simplest of things can be turned into date night fun. On the day you choose to put your decks up, get the Christmas songs playing and grab your favourite festive fizz. Work as a team to trim up your tree and the rest of your home, then you can sit back and enjoy your sparkly masterpiece.
